In 2003, just before his fight against Clifford Etienne, Mike Tyson got a tattoo on his face. According to the heavyweight boxer himself, he initially wanted hearts, but the tattoo artist would not do it:
Tyson had previously talked about getting a facial tattoo if he won his title fight with Lewis. This is something he has been thinking about a long time. I don’t think it was an impulse at all. I think Mike Tyson’s facial tattoo was an attempt for him to say, “This is what I’m all about. I am a man’s man. I am a fighter and a warrior”.
On the bicep of his right arm the boxer has an tattoo of Chairman Mao Zedong, the former Chinese leader. Despite the obvious contradictions in the link with him and the communist icon, Tyson is said to have identified with him during his time in prison in the 1990s after he was convicted of sexually abusing an 18-year-old girl. The fighter began to read voraciously when locked up and one of the books that had a big effect on him was that of Mao, and so he decided on the tattoo.
Born on June 30, 1966, Michael Gerard Tyson didn’t initially seem like the kind of boy who would grow up to be a fearsome and powerful fighter. According to ESPN, Tyson described himself as “a little fat kid with glasses” who was frequently hounded by bullies.
The short answer to what a heavyweight boxer eats is, well, everything. Steak, chicken, different kinds of fish. During a recent visit to Jiang Nan, a Chinese-fusion joint Zhang frequents in Montclair, N.J., a plate filled with flat, oval-shaped meat arrives at the table. George slides a piece between a pair of chopsticks and asks Zhang to identify it. He always asks. In China, George was often offered food he couldn’t identify. Horse. Bull penis. Snake blood. “Cow tongue,” says Zhang. The chopsticks drop. “Nope,” says George. “Not eating that.”

“Spike gave me the book and went through the book and what a thing,” Tyson explains in an interview with Inked Mag. “I flew through it, then read it again. I felt a kinship to . He was very intelligent and he held back that intelligence, he was just non-confrontational. I respect that. I wish I could be nonconfrontational but it just wasn’t meant to be. I felt a kinship there, so I put a tattoo there.”

Tyson’s tattoos and skill as a boxer certainly set him apart from his competitors. But Tyson has also engaged in outrageous behavior — in and out of the ring — which fueled his notoriety. Take the ear-biting incident.
Whitmill, who created the original tattoo and registered the copyright, sued in April asking that a federal judge halt the release of the blockbuster comedy sequel because it prominently features the tattoo without permission. As we noted when the case was filed, copyrighted works are copyrighted works, no matter whether they are painted on canvases or walls or the bodies of former heavyweight champions.
In 2003, Mike Tyson did the unexpected and it had nothing to do with boxing. Tyson got a tattoo of tribal art on his face, yet that wasn’t his original plan. He wanted a tattoo, but he wanted to have hearts all over his face. “My best thinking was to have a bunch of hearts all over my eyes and face like a pirate patch,” Tyson said on The Rosie Show.
Alongside Camille Ewald, he secured legal guardianship over a young Mike Tyson after his mother died. D’Amato became a father-like figure to Tyson and taught him his famous peek-a-boo style of boxing, where a boxer holds his gloves close to his face.
